Me Made May 2014

Well, Me Made May 2014 didn't exactly go as pledged.
I did wear me made every day, but I didn't take daily photos and I may have had some repeats in there.  I hadn't given my pledge enough thought before May, as the copy cat pledge from the previous years just didn't work for me this year.  I wasn't going to do this follow up post but I wanted to make sure for MMM15 I remember these reflections:

  • Early May started out really busy with fashfest and I didn't have the time to check out the flickr pool
  • I'm trying to limit my electronic/online time when the kids are around so that cuts out quite a bit of time - last year I dedicated easily an hour a day to the flickr pool
  • I didn't have any enthusiasm for photographing and documenting outfits (that I continue to love and happily wear like this one but) had already documented during the previous 2 years MMM.
  • May is such a transitional month that this year I had well and truly turned my back on all the 'spring clothes' and had started thinking of my autumn wardrobe and didn't feel like wearing clothes just for my pledge preferring to focus more on my seasonal wardrobe.
  • Happily I fully integrated my Rigel Bomber into my wardrobe. It gets worn often as my go to casual (when it's not too cold) outfit.
  • I love all my May makes, especially my cocoon cardigan which is now in high rotation.
I did miss the camaraderie and the inspiration from the flickr pool, but I popped in now and again and have enjoyed though slightly distanced this year, the month of other's selfies, especially on instagram.  Thanks Zoe for doing it again.  It really is a great event.

Did you participate in MMM? How did you go?

Oh and I just finished a dress today!! Stay tuned as I will blog about it verrrrry soon.

  1. Good on you for giving it a go though! Takes a fair bit of time and commitment from what I've seen, although instagram seemed to make it easier and I enjoyed seeing people's daily posts. Much easier just to wack on me made stuff and dash out the door without photos!

  2. May really is a transitional month... and you are going in the more depressing, colder direction! For me the month starts off cold, and gets warmer and sunnier. It's fun to start wearing summer stuff at the end that I couldn't have worn in the beginning! I always find the transition to fall more challenging. Looking forward to seeing your new dress! :)

  3. I think just the fact you wore me-made all month speaks volumes! I don't need photographic proof that you did it (although you do take very pretty photos of very pretty clothes!)

Towards the end, I was really hating the selfie in the dunny mirror. Unfortunately it's hard to get anyone to take photos without also asking a lot of questions as to WHY.

Like you I hardly was on Flickr. I find it so hard to use these days. Next year I will make a more concerted effort.

Can't wait to see your dress!

  4. That's a fair point Kirsty about wearing things just because it's MMM rather than what's seasonal (or even comfortable!). I found I took a lot more pleasure taking photos of outfits on non-work days, just because they were more interesting..... A 3/4 sleeve tee and Elle pants get a little monotonous over time! t has helped that I've worked out a fairly quick camera set up now! I think next year I'll just be taking pics of nicer outfits and using the flickr pool rather than boring people with my unexciting round up posts! :)

  5. Interesting to read about cutting back on online time when the kids are around. I have been making the same effort as my older daughter in particular was feeling rather ignored. It means that I am hardly online the way used to be and rarely get a moment to leave comments anymore but it's worth it for kids that feel like mummy is "back" and it's the main reason I didn't do MMM14 this year. Been loving your posts and your makes though. Wonderful as always.

  6. This was my first MMM and thank goodness the weather has been unseasonably warm in Sydney or I would've struggled with the clothes. I wore me made everyday but had to come up with a different way of photographing it myself as I had no useable full length mirror. This meant we saw rather alot of my shoe collection and not as much detail in the clothes but it sort of worked?
I discovered so many new people via instagram via MMM that those relationships alone made participating worthwhile.

  7. There's no way I could do MMM - no matter the season - so I really admire anyone that gives it a crack. Some of the participants wardrobes are just amazing! I love your Cocoon cardi...looks so snuggly.

  8. last year i tried to take daily photos, and that just sucked the joy out of it! this time i went with the IG selfies because that was totally doable for me. i do enjoy the community of it and seeing what everyone wears!

  9. Oh. A new dress! That's exciting.
I was able to do MMM and get rid of a stack of clothes I was too wary of giving away. Especially since I made them. But then, my tastes have changed so this year it 'was time' to say good bye to my earlier makes. No tears were shed ;)

  11. Merche, the admiration is mutual! You did such a great job as usual with MMM. I just don't know how you do it!!

  12. I can't believe how many items you were able to give away! I've been thinking about cleaning out a few of my items as well. Sadly they all seem to be 'not so well made' skirts.

  13. Instagram really took off this year and it's an easy fun way to see what everyone is doing. The community is really amazing and it is a great month for that.

  14. I know, some people have unbelievable wardrobes!! Don't discount yourself too early. I wouldn't be surprised if you are giving it a go next year!

  15. And what a great shoe collection it is!! I loved tuning in each day to see what pair I would steal from you (given we are the same shoe size and all!). I think the trick is to set up a tripod and have it in the same place each day... but our house just doesn't have a good spot. Mmm. planning for next year.

  16. It's been something I've been thinking about a lot. I wondered whether you were doing MMM. I find it so easy to be sucked into the online thing but it sets (in my opinion) a bad example for my boys when I'm doing it all the time- they would happily play electronic games all the time if I let them and seeing me on the computer just makes them think it's ok. It's hard and I'm not doing well.. I still am at the computer quite a bit but I'm trying!

  17. I loved your round up posts, so keep them going next year! I'd like to set up a spot where the tripod is always ready. That would help. I'll also change my pledge a bit I think.

  18. Thanks Michelle x I still love the flickr pool and think it is the place to hang for MMM but gosh they messed around with the useability.

  19. You had such a great MMM. I felt your energy for it much more this year than last. I loved your idea of playing to your strengths with your TNT patterns. I also think you were on a winner with a set up tripod!

  20. Oh, yes, so much easier to wack on stuff.. especially when getting out the door isn't always easy to start with :)

  21. You are very welcome! I spent less time hanging out in the flickr group too this year, and I also really missed it. But I am totally finding I have the same aim: to limit my electronic time when my little girl is about and give her as much of my attention as I can. It's tricky being a mum AND a super awesome sewer isn't it?! xxx
